CP vendor ratings

Here is a long list of the Carnivorous plant vendors that I have witnessed over the past few years. Some are good, while some are bad. I insist that beginners order from the vendors that I recommend.

California Carnivores, www.californiacarnivores.com (most varieties)

I have ordered from Peter and Damon quite a few times in the past. Althuogh their selection for Nepenthes isn’t that big, they’re working on it. Plants arrive in good condition with fast shipment too. They just added a slow shipping version for CP supplies which is always good to save money on. I would highly recommend ordering from them.

Pet Fly Trap , www.petflytrap.com (Nepenthes, Sarracenia, Diana)

With these guys, it can be a hit and miss game. I will never be ordering from petflytrap aghain after the experiences I and many others have had with them. I have reason believe that their nursery doesn’t adapt plants once they arrive from Borneo Exotics or Exotica Plants. Most of the plants I have received from them have taken months to recover and actually get to a considerably large size. My recent order from them, a 100$ N. thorelli X campunalata, arrived with soft leaves and in VERY poor packaging. The poor thing ended up dying a month later. I recently found out that the cause of death was due extremly compact sphagnum that had been compacted in the pot (it was literately packed in there and compressed with the sphagnum!). The small and feeble roots just couldn’t handle it. Although their amount of CP’s they sell is quite massive, most are just very small and don’t look like anything in the pictures. I recently heard a shocking story from one CP grower who ordered from them. The 200$ in plants he had obtained arrived with the main stalks cut off. The seller said that he had chopped off the stalks because the grower already had “nice stock plants”. Upon further observation the plants were covered in rust. The seller was oviously trying to hide the disease by cutting off the main gorwth points on all the plants. Many of the plants I have bought from petflytrap have died or have taken months to adapt. My N. Burb. Edwardsiana I obtained from them just started growing after a year of doing nothing! Don’t let their large stock of plants fool you. . . these guys are bad news. I do not recommend ordering from them due to my bad experiences with them!

Paroubek Orchids, www.exoticaplantsplus.com (Nepenthes and Orchids only)

Now this guy, he stands out from the pack! Not only are his plants well hardened off and big, but he has a wide selection and even a reserve form for rare plants that are usually not seen online! He responds to email fast and ships the Nepenthes with warning tags all over the package so the post office knows to keep the plants inside during rough conditions. He was so kind enough to send me a flowering female Nepenthes campunalata which produced my first homemade hybrids! (the seedlings died from a mouse RIP icon sad CP vendor ratings ) Every plant I have gotten from him has “hit the ground running” with growth rates sky high! Don’t think twice about ordering from Tony! I highly recommend ordering from him!

Horticus Botanicus, www.hortusb.com (most CP varieties)

I have known Rob for a very long time. This was the first Carnivorous plant nursery I visited and I loved every bit of it! Sadly, Rob stopped operating his nursery quite a while ago. The site above no longer exists. icon sad CP vendor ratings
